Mobile Marketing: Why use mobile marketing in your business?

by Nick Bowditch on July 13, 2010

This is the first of the series on mobile marketing from guest blogger Scott Middleton.

People have their mobile with them 24/7. Many are so glued to their mobile that they even take it with them to the toilet (and drop it!). Some even say their mobiles are more important to them than their spouse or alcohol. Mobile marketing connects you to your customers through the only device that people always have with them.

You are connecting with your customers through a channel they are more likely to respond to and engage with than traditional channels. For example, Mobile coupons see redemption rates of over 25% compared with email coupons that only see a 4% click rate (NOT response rate). And, iPhone users have a significantly higher recall of mobile advertising than those not using an iPhone. These are just the tip of the iceberg.

When you start looking at everything you can do with mobile you come across some exciting and, more importantly, high performing ways of engaging with your customers. Mobile marketing provides fantastic customer engagement and return on investment with your customers through things like: optimising your email newsletter for mobiles, highly targeted ads, ads that appear on your customer’s phone when they are nearby, mobile coupons, reminder SMSs to customers the day before an appointment, mobile applications that extend your brand and more. In the future I want to cover each of these mobile marketing areas and more with you.

Mobile marketing gives you so many exciting ways to directly connect with your customers and see a fantastic return on investment.

Gday Scott,

Thanks heaps for the guest post. I know a LOT of my clients have asked me about mobile marketing and how it can done without seeming spammy and annoying, so I know your topic is one that interested a lot of people.

I am really excited that you are writing for us on this blog. Thanks for your contribution.
