Nick Bowditch on Twitter

Gday and thanks for getting here via my Twitter account. So let me introduce myself so you can decide whether it’s worthwhile for you to follow my stuff on Twitter.

My name is Nick Bowditch and I have three businesses – an affiliate sales system, a specialised travel consultancy – Nick Bowditch Travel – Australia’s Family Travel Expert and The Bowditch Group, Social Engagement Specialists for Small Business.

I tweet mostly about affiliate selling, family travel, social engagement, small business and social media marketing. I also like to think I do my fair share of tweeting about nothing directly related to my own business, but rather about yours. My passion is to help small businesses engage better with their target market and their community.

So who am I?

I am a 39 year old Australian small business owner, based on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia.  I am married to Kelly and have a daughter, Ocean, aged 1 and her little brother joining our little family in September 2010.

Basically broke and with my young family expanding quickly, I took one of the bravest – and best – decisions of my life and chucked in my city job to start his own travel business, working from home.

I built up that business from a customer database of just 4 when I started, to more than 4,500 a year later – all without staff, a shop front, and without any mainstream advertising in print, radio or television – instead option to promote my new business using Social Media Marketing.

In the last 12 months, I have gone from having one online business to three, my e-book and electronic products have now been downloaded thousands of times, and I am now a sought-after keynote speaker for small business seminars and the author of The Business of Being David – How to use social media to make your small business big.

My Twitter E-Book – now more than 3,200 downloads since October 2009!

Since 2006, hundreds of thousands of people have gotten on the Twitter bandwagon. Users of the social media micro-blogging platform have grown recently at a rate of 1382% per month!

While I have a following of more than 2,200 people now, when I started on Twitter, I had no idea what I was doing with it. Like a lot of new Twitterers, after a few days of tweeting to nobody and getting nothing in return (obviously), I thought the same thing I have heard a million times from people, “what a waste of time”.

So if you are new to Twitter and having the same doubts, don’t despair.

I am going to share with you the 34 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started on Twitter.

I am by no means an expert on Twitter – these are just a few things which helped me not only understand the platform more but also get the most out of it while still being a good Twitter ‘citizen’.
