The last week of May saw a lot of traffic to The Bowditch Group website with more than 5,300 visits.
On average, each visitor visited four different pages/posts this week so I am happy that people seem to be seeing the website as an interesting or useful resource for small business owners.

2. Who is responsible for your privacy online? Facebook or You?
This week in Sydney, Australia, something unspeakable happened and it has again thrown social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace into the spotlight, and not for good reasons.
A Sydney man allegedly lured a young lady to a meeting under the guise that he worked for an animal rescue organisation and was conducting an overnight training camp in the bush south-west of Sydney.
The young lady was to meet the man at a local railway station, she never returned.
This is a terrible tragedy for the young lady’s family and friends and my heart goes out to them. It’s a timely reminder that there are complete nut jobs everywhere – in the street, in dark alleys and, of course, on Facebook. Read the full article here.

3. The next best thing since Twitter: FourSquare
Big claim I know. And many people would be saying, “What’s FourSquare?” But you won’t be saying that in 12 months time.
So what is FourSquare?
In a lot of ways, FourSquare represents the next generation of social networking. It combines the standard fodder: friends, followers, reviews and status updates with geographic and location-based features.
Users ‘check-in’ at different locations around a town or city, update their following where they are and what they are buying or doing and leave a comment or suggest a tip for others when they are in the same place.
It sounds really geeky but until you use it, it’s difficult to really grasp how powerful this application could be. Read the full article here.

4. The Pear Shaped Plan: How to recover when it all goes horribly wrong

So what about when it all goes horribly wrong? How do you recover from an online and very public stuff-up? You know the adage of a happy customer telling ten people and an unhappy customer telling one hundred? It has never been more true than with the introduction of social networking.
Now, suddenly, thousands of people could know about your customer’s bad experience with you – not just their family and friends.
None of us are perfect and none of our businesses are perfect. So when it all goes south, I think you should treat every customer as if they have 10,000 followers on Twitter and a radio spot on a popular station each week. Read the full article here.

5. 34 Things I Knew When I Started on Twitter
Since 2006, hundreds of thousands of people have gotten on the Twitter bandwagon. Users of the social media micro-blogging platform have grown recently at a rate of 1382% per month!
While I have a following of more than 2,000 people now, when I started on Twitter a few months ago, I had no idea what I was doing with it. Like a lot of new Twitterers, after a few days of tweeting to nobody and getting nothing in return (obviously), I thought the same thing I have heard a million times from people, “what a waste of time”.
